WELCOME MESSAGE
Our world and especially the Middle East and North African region is currently confronted with a number of complex problems and threats. Several factors and influences such as war, displacement, migration and immigration as well as climate change, natural disasters, conflict, globalization, population growth, urbanization, agricultural production, industrialization, geopolitics, socioeconomic transformations, and cultural practices have a profound effect on mental health, mental disorders and service provision. These environmental and socio-political stressors have been accompanied by the spread of problematic psychological and behavioural tendencies, and it would be na”ive to expect that global environmental and socio-political stressors will have a less stressful impact on communities and individuals in the decades to come. Unless psychiatric research and practise accept the major role they need to play in responding to all these geopolitical negative phenomena, psychiatrists and mental health professionals will increasingly be overwhelmed by their mental health sequelae. This year the Okasha Institute of Psychiatry, Ain Shams University is celebrating its 20th International Congress of Psychiatry together with the 8th International Congress on Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, the 5th International Congress on Addiction Psychiatry and Dual Diagnosis and the 2nd Regional Women Mental Health Middle East & North Africa Congress which will be held from 27-29 May, 2025. The theme of our congress will be:
“World Adversity and Psychiatry’:
This congress will include plenary sessions, lectures, symposia and workshops that will cover and discuss the different adversities affecting psychiatry and mental health and how can we prepare ourselves for caring for our patients in these difficult times. On behalf of all the congress committees, I would like you invite you to share in this exciting congress to discuss the latest in research and exchange experiences while meeting both friends and colleagues from all over the world.
We are looking forward to welcoming you all in Cairo, Egypt.
